James "Jim" Cahal's Obituary
James C. Cahal, age 94 of Independence, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 3, 2026, in Cleveland, Ohio. Born on September 7, 1931, in Parma, Ohio, James was the son of the late Dube and Lizzie (Kinkade) Cahal.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, James served his country with honor and distinction. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as a Printer-Pressman at Carpenter Reserve Printing, where his incredible work ethic was evident to all who knew him. James retired from his position after many years of dedicated service, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and commitment.
James was the beloved husband of the late Ruth (Deike) Cahal and a loving father to his children, Doug (deceased), Judy Koschmann (Andy) and Karen Cahal. James was a cherished grandfather to Mark (Kara) Koschmann, Jim (Amanda) Koschmann, and Kennedy Cahal, and great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Rice, Robert, Donald, Glenn and Collis Cahal. His absence will be felt by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Jim's passion for gardening was exceptional; he found great joy in cultivating his plants and sharing the fruits of his labor with others. His appreciation for a fine bourbon was well-known, and he enjoyed sharing a "nip" with friends and family. Jim was a great provider who always put the needs of others ahead of his own.
Those who knew Jim would describe him as passionate and selfless. He approached every aspect of his life with a level of care and consideration that inspired everyone around him. Jim's thoughtfulness extended beyond his immediate circle, touching the lives of many others around him.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at Vodrazka Golubski Deliberato Funeral Care, 6505 Brecksville Rd., Independence, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 from 4-7p.m. Funeral service Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Mapleshade Cemetery, with Military Honors presented by the U.S. Navy.
