Virginia E. Szubra's Obituary
Virginia E. Szubra, (nee Demski), passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Garfield Heights, Ohio, at the age of 98. Born March 2, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor (Kobus) Demski. Beloved wife of 67 years of the late Casey Szubra. Loving mother of Linda Roney (Jim) and David Szubra; cherished grandmother of Kelly Kennelly (Tim), Becky Soder (Matt), Jim Roney (Michelle) and Joanna Roney (Ignacio); great-grandmother of Maddy, Abby, Brooke, Jessie, Lauren and Luke. Godmother, aunt, great-aunt and cousin of many.
Along with her husband, Casey, Virginia was the owner of Eleanor's Gift Shoppe in Garfield Heights. Through their business, she became a familiar and trusted presence in the community. Her work was more than a livelihood. It was an extension of the care and pride she brought to everything she did.
Virginia was also active in community life and served as President of the Turney Town Merchants Association. She was a member of St. Therese Seniors Club and served as a Girl Scout Leader, roles that reflected her commitment to helping others and encouraging the next generation. She was especially proud to be the last surviving member of her Ladies Club, which met for 67 years, a remarkable testament to the enduring friendships and shared memories that enriched her life.
At home, Virginia found joy in the simple and beautiful routines of family life. She enjoyed gardening and took great pleasure in cooking for her family, especially her famous cheese squares, which became a beloved favorite. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she cherished every opportunity to be surrounded by the people she loved most.
Virginia also enjoyed traveling with her husband and sharing their vacation home in Myrtle Beach with family and friends. These times brought her happiness and relaxation, and they created treasured memories that will remain with her family forever.
Those who knew Virginia will remember that she worried about everything and prayed for everyone. She cared deeply and sincerely, and she made it a habit to ask loved ones to call her when they returned home safely. Her concern was a reflection of the depth of her love. She was known for her generosity, her kind heart, and her strong faith, qualities that guided her throughout her life and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Virginia's life was a beautiful example of devotion, resilience, and grace. She will be remembered with love and gratitude by all whose lives she touched. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she cherished, the community she served, and the faith that sustained her.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at St. Therese Catholic Church, 5276 E. 105th St., Garfield Heights on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 9:30 am - 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Entombment All Saints Cemetery.
