Thomas Victor Fontana, known to family and friends as Tom, passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 65 in Kent, Ohio. An artist, writer, businessman, and true renaissance man, Tom lived a life defined by creativity, curiosity, and purpose. He was the oldest of three children born to Joseph Charles Fontana and Geraldine Ann Fontana of Garfield Heights, Ohio.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Tom served his country honorably for 20 years, culminating in his retirement in 2005 with the rank of Commander. His naval career reflected his commitment to duty, integrity, and excellence. Tom valued education and lifelong learning. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Kent State University and later completed a Master of Science in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego—accomplishments that mirrored his drive to lead with purpose and insight.
Beyond his military and academic achievements, Tom expressed his love of learning and life through art, writing, and entrepreneurship. His wide-ranging interests, intellectual curiosity, and creative spirit earned him the admiration of those who knew him and exemplified the very essence of a renaissance man.
He is survived by his two sons, Jonathan Fontana and Michael Fontana both in Arizona. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Fontana, Garfield Heights, Ohio, and his brother, Anthony Fontana, Louisiana.
Tom will be remembered for his service to his country, his commitment to education, his creative spirit, his infectious laugh, and his unwavering love for his family.
