Not a big poggers
I had the privilege of meeting Stan 58 years ago as we became friends growing up in Parma. When I learned of Stan’s passing, I replayed a lifetime of memories. There wasn’t much we didn’t do together growing up in the old neighborhood. Having a pool made the Long household a popular place to be. A tradition that has carried on over generations for the Longs. Playing sports, swimming, shooting off firecrackers and running from the cops. High school Friday football nights & cruising. Graduating from Normandy, attending college, and hitting the clubs on weekends. I still remember during the early 70’s one night at the legendary Corral, when I pointed out Mary Beth to Stan and encouraged him to go ask her to dance. During 1975 we were in each other’s wedding parties, and eventually bought houses within a healthy walk. Many weekends playing pinochle till dawn with Mary Beth & Sandy followed by Sunday morning softball for years. As families grew and moving vans rolled the contact was less frequent but we still had the occasional pinochle tournament and a few beers at Pounders. Stan was a great friend and a great man! I am very sad he is gone and I will miss him. My heart goes out to Mary Beth and the entire Long family.

Memories of my best friend are so many and cherished. Playing golf with Stan and friends was always great fun, yet when only us two played, it felt special. We both resurrected our game after an absence of many years and the time we spent encouraging, and yes, needling each other through the years will live on as one of my fondest memories. Competing in fantasy football, sampling new beers, and socializing with Stan, Mary, their family and friends at their backyard pool parties are memories that will be cherished forever. May God welcome you with open arms my friend and may you rest in Peace forever.
