To Mrs. Hennie Godine and Family:
I was very sad to learn of the passing of Ron, a good friend and Navy shipmate aboard the USS New DDE-818(1961). Ron was fondly known to us as "Z-ski." He was a gentleman in every sense of the word, a true American Patriot who we all enjoyed being around and going on "liberty together," especially when we made port in Capetown and Durban, South Africa. We envied Ron when he left the Navy and worked for RCA and settled in South Africa, a wonderful, friendly country. Since we were both from Cleveland, we sometimes drove home together from Norfolk, VA over a 2-3 day weekend.
"Fair winds and following seas shipmate,
may forever you feel, upon your cheek, the salty breeze.
Your spirit lives on in many a heart,
your words captured and never to depart.
May your loved ones be comforted knowing
that heaven is where you are going.
For all that they have to do is look above,
and they will be reminded of your love."
