Renee Knittel's Obituary
Renee Patricia Knittel, age 83, of Independence, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Born on March 13, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, Renee was the daughter of the late John and Lorraine (Borris) Zack.
Renee's life was rich with love and accomplishment. A devoted wife, she shared 60 beautiful years with her beloved husband, Gerald Knittel. Together, they built a family founded on warmth and caring, raising three wonderful daughters: Denise (Jim) Gallagher, Debbie (David) Sollinger, and Diane (Andrew) Bittman. Renee's legacy continues to flourish through her cherished grandchildren: Jessica, Justin, Jordan (Maddie), Tommy, Victoria, John, Theodore, Lucas, Peyton, and Olivia, all of whom brought immense pride and happiness to her life.
Renee's siblings, Robert Zack (Janice) and John Zack (Ellie), fondly remember her as a loving sister. She was preceded in death by her sister Lorraine McNally, whose husband Bill survives.
Renee's early years were shaped by her education at Beaumont High School, where she graduated in 1959. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Kent State University where she attained a business degree and utilized those skills working for close to 2 decades at her parent's children's clothing store, "Little Sophisticates." After the store's closing, at age 49, Renee went back to school, became a Physician's Assistant and worked at Akron City Hospital.
Renee's love for life was evident in her hobbies, which included: baking, cooking, reading, gardening, racquetball, volleyball, traveling, crocheting and playing cards or games with family and friends. She not only mastered the art of crochet but also passed on this skill to her granddaughter, ensuring that her talent would live on in the family. A woman of many interests, Renee was an integral part of her community. She served as a lector at St. Michael's Church for over 30 years and as a tour guide for the City of Independence.
Those who knew Renee will remember her as the epitome of loving, thoughtful, and friendly. Her outgoing nature and perpetual smile were her trademarks, and her love for conversation made her a cherished friend to many. Above all, Renee loved her family the most, and her presence in their lives was a constant source of joy and guidance.
