Raymond Ralph Spirek's Obituary
Raymond Spirek, age 85, passed away
August 20, 2018 in Dayton, Ohio. Born November 1, 1932 to Ralph Spirek and Eleanor Spirek, he was the younger brother of Marie Curtis (nee Spirek). He played on the Independence Wildcats basketball team that won the 1947 East Cuyahoga Junior League Championship, and graduated from Independence High School in 1951. The amateur anthropologist and stamp collector worked for the East Ohio Gas Company before and after serving in the United States Army. In the Korean War he cut powder on the front lines and performed in the drill team. "Bud" returned to Independence where he met and married Edith (nee Hampson) at the Independence United Methodist Church. They were married for 57 years. Melissa Spirek (m. Sean McClelland) is their surviving daughter. Ray loved target shooting and working with Corvettes. One of the earliest members of Corvette Cleveland, he qualified for the Fast 50s Club for racing his Corvette around Nelson Ledges in less than a minute. He also showed cars in Concours d’Elegance competitions and charity events. A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers and to recognize his passion for animals, please donate to The Francis Kennels Animal Rescue, 1984 Lower Bellbrook Rd, Xenia, OH 45385 or a charity of choice.
