Michael "Big Mike" Herasimuk's Obituary
Michael R. “Big Mike” Herasimuk, age 67, of Independence, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Born October 31, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the loving son of the late Peter and Lois (Jensik) Herasimuk. Mike was the cherished husband of 11 years of Shannon (nee Hudson). Step father of Michelle Fletcher, dear brother of Susan Herasimuk (Robert Tiderman) and the late Howard Herasimuk (wife Mary) and the late Christina Vernon (husband Mickey), and uncle of Forrest Vernon (Kayla).
Mike was a 1976 graduate of Independence High School. Following his graduation, he continued his education at trade school, where he developed the skills and knowledge that would serve him well throughout his career as a Technical Consultant at System Controls.
Mike was truly a people person. He could talk to anyone with genuine interest and a natural sense of humor that made conversations memorable. He had a funny wit and a big heart.
Outside of work, Mike enjoyed a wide range of interests that reflected his curiosity and love of life.
He had a special appreciation for R.C. boats and enjoyed the satisfaction of working with them. He loved vinyl albums and listening to music, finding joy in the sound and nostalgia of a favorite record spinning on a turntable. He also enjoyed old cars, cooking, and taking drives through the Metroparks, where he could relax and take in the beauty of the outdoors and he especially enjoyed visiting the stables of the Mounted Police Horses.
Mike lived a life marked by warmth, humor, and genuine connection. He was the kind of man who made ordinary moments better simply by being present. His thoughtful nature, friendly manner, and quick wit made him unforgettable to family, friends, and all who crossed his path.
He will be remembered for the joy he brought, the conversations he sparked, and the kindness he shared so freely.
