Matt earned a special place in my heart because of his determination to attain his goal of an appointment to the US Merchant Marine Acadmeny. He was enrolled in my Computer class, and I helped him with his paperwork and recommendations. When he did not get accepted, he took it in stride and completed his coursework at CSU and applied again with success! But our paths crossed again--I followed his progress through talks with Nicole, who was also a wonderful student. Then in 1997, Matt took a great deal of time from his busy schedule at The Academy to talk to my son Brad about seeking admission to the USMMA. Matt took us on a tour when we visited the campus and advised Brad on admission information. Brad did receive his appointment to the USMMA, but opted to accept an Air Force scholarship at The Citadel instead. I remember how much fun we had taking Matt and Brad out to eat at an Italian restaurant near the campus. The food was amazing, and Matt definately enjoyed it and our visit. When I told my son Brad of his passing, he said, "Mom, he was really a great guy! He help me make my decision by his passion and honesty and advice. Please tell his family how much I appreciated his help." As you well know, Matt truly was a special soul! His friendship was a cherished gift to all who were fortunate to know him! Fondly, Linda and Dave and Brad Bebenroth
