Joan was my “sister of the heart.” We shared a birthday, as well as a love of reading and writing, and bonded years ago. She was a lovely and loving soul with a laugh that swept away all darkness and sorrow. I will miss her dearly, but am richer for having had her friendship in my life.
Joan was my supervisor at the Olmsted Falls and North Olmsted branches of Cuyahoga County Public Library. She showed great enthusiasm for books and was skilled at describing them. She had a great sense of humor. She was a good person and showed compassion to others. . I’m sorry she didn’t get to enjoy the retirement that she worked so hard for.
We were blessed to have Joan as our cousin and I especially admired her so much growing up with her as a little girl. Believe it our not, when she got glasses I wanted them too. She was an avid reader from childhood and I vividly remember her being a huge fan of Tolkien and The Hobbit when she was just in elementary school.
So many memories.... but most of all, that of her infectious laughter. The world is less sunny with her passing.

I worked with Joan at NOL for almost three years. She was such a friendly, funny and most of all kind person. She made me feel welcome at NOL and helped me whenever I asked for it. I learned a lot from Joan.
I loved her enthusiasm over superheroes! She recommended some movies to me which I enjoyed watching. I think she had a crush on Thor! I will always remember how happy and proud she was of her sister's baking which she shared with us often. I missed her when she retired and I miss her now.
