Ira "Sonny" Smith's Obituary
Ira "Sonny" Smith of Nettie, West Virginia passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026. He was born in Persinger, West Virginia on November 12, 1937. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara "Bobbie" Smith, grandson Evin Andrew Smith as well as 11 of his brothers and sisters.
He served honorably as a Military Policeman with the United States Army. Upon his return from the service, he began a long and distinguished career with Hydraulic Press Brick in Ohio and Indiana. He had risen to the position of Vice President of Production during his career.
Though he found joy in countless hobbies and possessed a remarkable ability to succeed in whatever he tried, his greatest achievement was the love he shared with his wife. She was his constant companion, his greatest source of happiness, and the love of his life.
He is survived by his daughters Pamela Smith, Lisa Smith and Tracy Smith; his grandsons Tyler Benge and Shawn Benge; his sister Margaret Adkins and brother Ted Smith.
Family and friends may gather at Vodrazka Golubski Deliberato Funeral Care, 6505 Brecksville Rd., Independence, Ohio on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 11am-1pm. A funeral service will begin at 1pm. Graveside services will follow at Maple Shade Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a tree be planted in his honor or donations made to the charity of your choosing.
