David Kopkas' Obituary
David Kopkas, age 81 of Brecksville, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 30, 2026. Born on September 25, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Francis) Kopkas. David was the beloved husband of the late Mary Lou (Geshwilm) Kopkas and dear brother of Michael Kopkas, Kathy Kopkas, and Jeff (Carol) Kopkas. He was a cherished uncle to Jeremy, Chad, and Kristina Kopkas, and he was also a cousin to many.
David was a graduate of Benedictine High School and later attended Fenn College. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam conflict.
He volunteered with the Cleveland Metroparks and the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad, giving generously of himself to organizations that preserved the beauty, history, and enjoyment of the region he loved. His efforts were recognized when he was named Volunteer of the Year, an honor that reflected both his dedication and the respect he inspired in others. This distinction earned him the privilege of throwing out the first pitch at a Cleveland Indians game, a moment that brought him great pride and joy.
David enjoyed hiking, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. Whether he was spending time outdoors, tending to a garden, or working with his hands, he found fulfillment in activities that allowed him to create, explore, and reflect.
