Daniel J. McCormack's Obituary
DANIEL J. MCCORMACK, AGED 88, PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT HIS HOME ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2024. Dear son of the late Edward and Ann McCormack; loving brother of the late Hugh (Mary) McCormack, the late Ann Steinmetz (Bill), and Celeste McCormack; and loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Dan graduated from St. Ignatius High School and attended John Carroll University. He later served his country in the US Army and worked at Thistledown Race Track. He strongly supported workers’ rights and the importance of unions. Dan served as an officer for the Racing of Ohio Local 304 for many years. In addition, he volunteered with the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Michael's Church, providing hot meals and collecting donations for the needy.
Dan spent many winters in Key West and was blessed with a remarkable gift for storytelling; he enjoyed regaling family and friends with tales of his often-astonishing misadventures. He attributed much of the quality of his later life to over 40 years of sobriety and AA membership, spending his days serving others in countless ways. Dan was thoroughly loved, and he will be deeply missed.
