Barbara Stevens' Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Stevens (nee Marx), beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished community member, who died peacefully on July 21, 2025, at the age of 85.
Barbara was the devoted mother of Martin (Mary Jean) and Laura (fiancé Peter), and the proud grandmother of Patrick (fiancée Ashley) and Grace. She was the beloved daughter of the late Wilbert and Ann Marx.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Barbara moved with her family to Independence at the age of three and remained a proud resident for more than eight decades. She attended St. Michaelʼs Elementary School and Marymount High School, where she was shaped by a strong Catholic faith and a deep sense of community.
Her life was a testament to service and devotion, spending many years working at Marycrest School in Independence and Regina Health Center in Richfield, both Catholic institutions close to her heart. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering-Barbara was a devout Catholic and a dedicated parishioner of both St. Basil and St. Michaelʼs Church over the course of her life. Her residency in Independence was filled with enduring friendships and treasured memories, and she enriched the lives of all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00am at St. Michael Catholic Church in Independence. A private inurnment for immediate family only will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Poor Clares Monastery in Cleveland, Ohio, or The St. Ann Shrine in Highland Heights, Ohio, in honor of Barbaraʼs memory and lifelong faith.
