Annie Mae Maxwell's Obituary
ANNIE MAE MAXWELL was born on December 2, 1925, in Alexander City, Alabama, to the late L.J. and Lizzie Moon Slaughter. She is the fifth child of seven siblings. She grew up in Alexander City and was a proud graduate of the Negro High School of Alexander City, Alabama, where she laid the foundation for her passion for learning and personal growth.
Annie Mae was a servant of God and a member of Great Bethel Baptist Church for many years. Her faith in God was steadfast, and she inspired others through her actions. She would often offer words of encouragement and uplift those around her.
Annie Mae was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Robert Maxwell, on August 15, 1959. From that union, they were blessed with one daughter, Rosalind Diane Maxwell. Annie Mae's love for her family, especially for her daughter, was evident in all she did.
A true sports enthusiast, she was an avid fan of all things athletic, with a special place in her heart for the Los Angeles Lakers. Her unwavering loyalty to the team, through seasons of triumph and challenges, was matched only by her deep love for her family and friends. Whether cheering on the Lakers or supporting loved ones in their endeavors, her energy, enthusiasm, and zest for life were contagious.
Throughout her life, Annie Mae worked with great dedication. She began her career as an elevator operator at Frohsin's Department Store. She then transitioning to Sunset Nursing Home, where she was well-loved by her coworkers and the residents she cared for.
On August 10, 2025, at the age of 99, Annie Mae was called to her eternal rest. She leaves behind a profound legacy of love, faith, and dedication to her family, church, and community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Maxwell; three brothers, Everett Moon (Hester); Ernest Moon (Bessie); L.M. Slaughter (Elizabeth); three sisters Nannielee Banks (Governor); Pearl B Sistrunk (Levi); Ethel Chiles (Lawrence)
Annie Mae's legacy will live on through her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Rosalind Diane Maxwell; her sister, Delois Jackson of Alexander City, Alabama; her brother, John L. Slaughter (Minnie) of Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Annie Mae's life was one of love, resilience, and service to others. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her, and her spirit will live on forever. May she rest in eternal peace.
