Andrzej Sobolewski's Obituary
Age 84, beloved husband of 62 years of Czeslawa (nee Lutynska). Born on November 10, 1941 in Suwalki, Poland to Zygmunt and Jozefa (nee Murawska). Loving father of Gregory (Grzegorz) (wife Sylwia), Dorothy (Dorota) (husband Richard Braverman), devoted grandfather to Elizabeth Sobolewski( husband Jacob Carroll), Victoria Sobolewski (husband Nathan Pratt), Jacob Braverman, Kathryn Braverman. Great grandfather of Sebastian and Milosz Pratt, and a great friend to many passed away peacefully after a short but courageous battle with an unusually fast progressing illness.
In Poland he worked as a welder and a precision machinist. He was devoted to his family for which he provided in many ways. He was an avid fisherman, scuba diver, sailor and member of the Polish Coast Guard Rescue. He was a knowledgeable forager. He became active in Solidarnosc ( workers Solidarity movement) and was imprisoned during martial law. He put his family first, leaving Poland in 1982 for which he was stripped of the rights to return. Recently he received an official apology for wrongful imprisonment and was awarded the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity.
He loved the water, traveling and teaching his grandchildren how to fish. He was a great mentor and an endless source of knowledge.
He was very religious, never missed a Sunday mass where he was a lecturer, usher, and would carry the Solidarnosc flag with great pride. He put others first, after his family. His incredibly vast knowledge amazed everyone that he befriended. His wit, sense of humor, and warm smile will be sorely missed. His unconditional love for his family and friends will always be remembered.
